(Herald Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon the annual opening of collection boxes of members of (he Patulalii branch of the Vouug Helpers’ League took place at Kepongaere, tin* home of Airs. K. 11. Renner. The function, which took the lorin ot a garden parly, was well attended, and young and old joined in outdoor games and competitions. A pleasant respite from their exertions was afforded the children when a dainty repast, was partaken of beneath the trees, the adult members of tin* party adjourning indoors, where afternoon tea was dispensed in a dining-room gay with daffodils and camellias. Before dispersing, the young people were addressed by Mr. Usher, who briefly outlined the good work, being carried out, in the slums of London hv Dr. Barnardo’s Homes, and exhorted the children to practise self-denial in however small a- degree. The most successful collectors for the year were Master (Iraeme- Smith and Misses Jean and Patricia Atkins. A full measure of credit was due to Aliss (5. A.
