LABOR FOR FARMERS
SHORTAGE IN TARANAKI The view that relief workers’ camps aggravated the serious shortage of farm labor and should he abandoned during the summer was expressed at a meeting of the South Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union at Hawera. Mr. W. T. Seed said-it was difficult to secure any sort of labor for farms.Apparently young men preferred the life in relief camps. Mr. K. Schmidt’s view was that some farmers had themselves to blame, as they made men work very long hours ami then put them off in the slack season. The organiser, Mr. P. Tite,i s <Kd many men in camp were perhaps' Viot aware of positions offering. They also did not like taking the risk of leaving camp in ease a job was no good.
