AUCKLAND V. P.B. NORTHERNERS LEAD 3-1 The soccer fixture at the Childers road reserve 'this afternoon between teams representing junior players of the Auckland primary schools and players in the Poverty Bay primary schools attracted a fair attendance of the public, although the weather was overcast and cold. The match was the first representative fixture ,of its kind in Gisborne, and even if the Auckland players displayed more ox-
porienco, Poverty 'Bay put up a creditable showing. The home team suffered a reveres at the outset when Auckland scored three goals in succession, but from then on the local players settled down and offered greater opposition. At half-time the northern team led by three goals to one. Auckland won the toss and kicked off against the wind. From a free luck against Poverty Bay for hands, Kitchingman scored direct with a long drive. —Auckland 1, Poverty Bay nil. Auckland remained oft the attack,,'but a good shot by Walters was saver! by the Poverty Bay goalkeeper, McFayden. Then tho Auckland centre-forward, Fredatovich, dribbled the ball up to the centre nicely for Walters to net it.— Auckland 2, Povery Bay nil. Auckland’s third goal was the result of Fredatovitch beating the Poverty Bay goalie with ft hard ground drive. .From half-way the blues gradually worked down the field again, but a clever run by Barber, the Poverty Bay outside right, carried play (fight down to their opponents’ goal mouth. Thompson, the left wing, narrowly missed scoring when he drove the ball over the bar. Good combined play by the red forwards followed, and Hepburn scored from the centre position.—Auckland 3, Poverty Bay 1. At half-time the position of the. teams remained unaltered',
