POUND AND DOLLAR
STABILISATION TALK MR. NORMAN IN U.S.A. : ■ ; ' NEW; YORK, Aug. 28: • Mr Montagu Norman, governor of •the Bank of England, after .opening a Berios of conferences with Government officials at Hyde.'Piirk, ■stayed for ait ihour ffioro, but did not engage l President Roosevelt in ‘private conversation on international financial matters, lus ivisit being purely social. Although Mr Norman kept the mature of his business secret, it is reported that he suggested the advisability of pound and dollar stabilisation, which the American officials again tentatively rejected, pending the outcome of the domestic recovery policy. It is suggested that Mr George Harrison, governor of the Federal ißank, and Mr Montagu Norman have been discussing the advisability of stabilisation of currency in foreign exchange, 'but there is not the slightest hint here that Mr Roosevelt feels that the time is ripe for this.
