PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
SOUTHERN SYNOD (Per Press Association.) , OAMARU, this day. Tho annual synod of the Preshyterian Church of Otago and Southland opened in Oamaru yesterday. The Moderator, the Rev. A. McNeur, presided at the opening session, at which there was a representative attendance. The Rev. A. C. Wedderspoon was elected Moderator of the synod for 1933, and tho Rev. Walter Maclean, of Oamaru, Moderator designate for 1934. A request of the Otago branch of the council for a religious education grant of £2OO to employ an organiser of the Nelson system of religious instruction in the State schools of Otago and Southland was not granted. Tho synod, though sympathising with tho request, had no funds from which a grant could lawfully he made. A large committee was appointed to confer, regarding the nomination of a professor of mental and moral philosophy at Otago University in succession to Professor Dunlop. At the evening scission members of the svnod Were welcomed by tho Mayor, Mr. M. F. Ooonoy, and representatives of the Oamaru Ministers’ Association.
