SANDERS CUP
dispute over trophy AUCKLAND MEETING (Par PrMi Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, at a special meeting, decided to offer to return the Sanders CJup to the donors. The dispute concerning the cup was discussed in committee and two resolutions were passed. One declared that the association regrets the dispute, which detracts from the high honor which New Zealand yachtsmen should at all time show to the memory of Mr. Sanders. It entertains the view that the contests have tended, to exhibit the skill and ingenuity of the builders of competing craft, instead of the seamanship and courage of those sailing them. It SMS no reason to expect any greater success in overcoming these difficulties by the formation of a New Zealand Yachting Council than has been achieved by the present system of interprovincial conferences. The second resolution declares that the association cannot understand the reiterated statement that it controls the Sanders Cup races and that other provincial associations have no voice. The control of all Sanders Cup contests since 1921 has been by the Dominion conference, in which Auckland has had precisely the came voice a 3 at any other conference, and during the last five years only one Aucklander on one occasion was appointed timekeeper, starter, or judge.
