Ensilage Competition

CHANGES in the control of the eiisilage competitions that have been judged in the Gisborne district this year and last are suggested by the judge, Mr. M. A. Black, who is the instructor in agriculture at Gisborne. In his report to the Farmers’ Union, which sponsored the competition, Mr. Black states:—“ As regards the judging, there docs not. seein to bo any real reason why all the silage should be judged at the same time. So hie farmers} use their silage in the late summer Or early autumn. . Some keep it, until the cows am coming in. It would be quite a simple matter to judge any entfv from February onwards till the end of August, and thus enable bolli early and late users to compete. I suggest therefore that next season intending competitors she ild be asked to let me know as soon as they have got well into their pit or stack, so that I cam judge their silage at the most convenient time. The last entries • would be some time in, August, ' and I could publish the results iis soon as the lust’ entries had lieeu judged. I could also arrange to have a 'field'day to see three dr four of (lie, most interesting exhibits.”
