SPLITTING THE STATE

BOUNDARY COMMISSION WORK COMMENCED SYDNEY, April 11. Tho beginning of the division of the State has commenced. A lawyer who lias some reputation as a constitutionalist lias been appointed to go into the question of boundaries and rights. He will work quietly by himself without anyone to dispute with, and will prepare the way for the division commission which must come later. _ . *,'• . There have been separatist, movements, but they have all died in their infancy. The present movement is very much 'alive. It was brought into being with the doings of the Lang. Government and is being kept lively through the spectre which is hovering in the background threatening to return. If he ever did return, before the boundaries had been defined . and their constitution adopted, there would be barriers placed round the area which would defy the threats of horrible things to come. So far the State seems likely to be split into three, the new States being the south-west and the northern, which has • its constitution and machinery all ready for use as soon as the release is made. Whether the Riverina area will be an inland State without access to the coast is not yet known, but it is to be hoped that there will be nothing set up to resemble the Polish corridor, or it may prove a perfect worry should-New South Wales get the Government it is hoping it will never get again.
