GISBORNE PROPOSAL CHARGE OF SIDE-STEPPING - Y ' The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce 'proposal to establish a separate transport licensing authority for the Gisborne district has yet to be considered by the Minister, according to a letter read at yesterday afternoon's meeting of the chamber, which decided to ask the Minister to expedite the matter. The Minister of Transport, the Bt. Hon. ,T. G. Coates, wrote:—“With reercnce to your letter o'f March 21, I regret that owing to extreme pressure of work ft has not been possible for ie to go any further into your chamber’s representations regarding the 'stablishment of a separato transport licensing authority with headquarters ■ft Gisborne. I shall take the first available opportunity of again going iiito the matter, with a view to reading finality at the earliest possible noinent, and shall rommunieate with on when a decision is reached.” Mr B. W. J. Edwards said that the nosition would be more complicated vhen the licensing for goods transmit was dealt with, and he moved that the Minister should lie acquainted of his, and asked to expedite the matter. 'This suggestion was adopted. . The secretary, Mr W. Hamilton vine, remarked that the Minister appeared to be side-stepping the issue. Another member agreed with this view.
