The Waimea arrived from Auckland this morning and sailed at noon for Napier. The Poolta arrived with southern cargo from Napier this morning and on completion of discharge and loading will sail for Dunedin to begin loading again as usual for Napier and Gisborne:

The Kalingo completed the discharge of Sydney general cargo and Newcastle coal here yesterday and sailed late last night for Picton.

The Kint, with Westport and Greymouth eoiril, is now oh route to Napier and Gisborne from Wellington. She is due here about Wednesday next. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Cornwall is expected at Gisborne about June 10 and at Tokomaru Bay about June 14 to load frozen meat, wool and general cargo for London and West Coast ports of tlie United Kingdom. The Pakura left Auckland yesterday afternoon for the Coast, Gisborne and Napier. She is due here in the morning and will sail later for the Hawke’s Bay port. On completion of discharge there the vessel is to proceed to Wellington in order to replace the Awahou in the Wellingtoii-Napici’-Gisborue service next week.

Tlie Awahou was expected to clear Wellington last evening for Napier and Gisborne and is due here on Saturday morning. On completion of discharge she will sail for Wellington to go on the slip for overhaul. The Pukeko, which has been in dock for painting, will take up her running again in the Auckland-CoUtst-Gisborne-Napier service next week. The Tiroa left Auckland yesterday afternoon for Gisborne and is expected here in the morning.

Tho Margaret W, which has been undergoing overhaul, will resume her running in the Auckland-Coast-Gisbome service next week. Tho Commonwealth and Dominion Shipping Company is building another large steamer, and the suggestion lias been made at Invercargill that the new vessel should be named tho Port Bluff or Port Southland. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Mahia is due here on May 8 from Wellington to load frozen meat, wool and general cargo for London. She will be dispatched later for Auckland and will sail finally from that port oil May 15 for Home, via Montevideo. The vessel is due at London on .Tune 25. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company are the Gisborne loading agents.

Another large cargo of scrap iron will be shipped to .Japan from the Dominion next month. Owing to t'he stranding of the Japanese steamer Jugo Marti at Noumea during a cyclone on April 5) the cargo will he picked up bv the British steamer Ilelmspey. Scrap will be loaded at Westport, consisting of steel from coal mines, old tramway and railway material at Wellington, together with ships' and boiler plains and broken machinery from Auckland. The total cargo will comprise about 7000 tons.

An interesting visitor to Wellington is the Norwegian motor tanker Osthav, from Singapore. She is a largo up-to-date tanker of 11,600 tons, deadweight carrying capacity, built, in Hamburg in 1931. Her propelling machinery is of more tliau ordinary interest since she is fitted with a M.A.N. double-acting, twostroke cycle, airless injection Diesel engine which develops 3100 horse-power, giving the ship a loaded speed of 12 knots.
