HOLY TRINITY CHURCH
(To the Editor of this Heruld.) Sir/ —Re the letter signed “Parishioner ’ in your last night's issue. Your unknown correspondent says: “Tho vestry has, of course, to pin its faith on expert advice” and “The i'aitii of the vestry must be sadly strained, however." 1 would only ask your correspondent who else’s advice.would he take bn any subject legal, 'medical, financial or otherwise except an expert’s? That is ‘ what 1 ex-' perts are for. The faith of the vestry, according to your report of the 12th, must have felt very little strain, 1 imagine, when they were unanimous ill reaching their decision' and recommendation. It seems to me that your correspondent is very ungenerous when he talks about making the parish “come to heel” within six months. The £ISOO mentioned is a straightforward, absolute grant to the Gisborne parish, and is not repayable. The only persons, 1 can assure your correspondent, “who stirred up the diocesan trustees to take up tlieii present attitude” are' the competent expert architects who act for this diocese, and have acted on the reconditioning work in Hawke’s Bay for the diocese of Waiapu. If your correspondent infers that pressure lias been' brought to bear on the authorities from the Gisborne end, I would like to disillusion .his mind. And if lie still needs further proof he can see it in the minutes of the last -meeting of the finance • committee(whichdoes not contain any r Poverty Bay men amongst its members) held in; Napier on-April 7, 1933. I will gladly sliow him the minutes of that meeting. 1 I 'am not a parishioner of Gisborne, and 1 would not have asked the generosity of your space except to refute your correspondent’s inference. —Yours, etc., 11. HODGSON, YVaerenga-a-hika.
