ART UNIONS

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir,— Regarding the remarks of the Minister, the Hon. J. A. Young, to Jj deputation of citizens on the question of issuing permits for art unions, published in your Saturday issue, I think lm fails to appreciate, the position, and the real motive underlying the demand for art unions. The truth of the matter is that the financial credit not reflecting the real credit of the country, many people desire to augment their meagre income by bettin2 on the totalisator or buying a ticket in an art union. After all, they are only getting a lead irom the financier who is doing something worse, inasmuch while tho man who is taking a chance on a horse, or a ticket in a sweep, the financier is deflating the currency, causing untold misery. When people concentrate on the only real problem, that is tho monetary problem, some tangible result will bo achieved. By a determined organised effort in {he direction of one single purpose, that is to 'change the monetary system in New Zealand, we ctin speedily eiid tho depression irrespective of wliat tho rest of the world is doing. Yo " r> ’ etc - «. jt-mpnEix
