MAYOR THREATENED ACTIVITIES RESENTED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. I lie Mayor, Mr. I). C. Sullivan, -M.lk, stated during an election address last evening that lie had received a large number of anonymous letters containing serious threats against him by a revolutionary group iii the city. These had been handed to the police. The revolutionary group, lie said, was not a large one. lint was very angry with him for what lie was doing to alleviate distress in the city.
"J have received anonymous letters demanding that 1 cease taking up collections in the streets and cease giving out relief,” lie said. ‘‘When ! ignored those letters, I received others telling mb that if 1 did not stop they would drag me from toy bed and tar and feather me. My answer was to organise another street collection, yielding £2300.’’
