FIERCE NOR’-WESTER
DAMAGE IN CANTERBURY (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The fiercest nor’-wester for many years raged for an hour round about 8 o’clock this morning, attaining a velocity of 60 miles an hour. Fences and stacks suffered severely in many country districts. Branches of trees along the river bank in the city were thrown in all directions.
At times, a huge cloud of dust obscuied the landscape. The power lines were not damaged.
