Dance at Mangapapa The first of a series of monthly dances to be held during the season by St. Joint’s Ladies’ Guild, Mangapapa, was held in the -Oddfebows’ Hail, Alangii papa, oil Monday evening. bridge Party A very delightful bridge party was riven on Saturday evening by Air and Mrs A. J. Barnard, Hiirahura road, in honor of their son, Mr A. O. Barnard, Pahiatua, who has been spending the Easter holidays with them in Gisborne.

Mrs Barnard received her guests rearing a handsome frock of black taffeta and gold lace. The drawing-room was artistically lecorated with particularly beautiful luhlias in varied art colorings, which lad been presented by Airs H'jath Johnson for the occasion, and which cere very much admired, the blooms leiug outstanding in size and color, giving to the room the appearance of a •harming indoor garden.

In spite' of a s’ky which occasionally became overcast, the weather remained line lor the final day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn mooting at GUerslie on Monday, with the result that the new fashions which appeared on Saturday were again to bo seen. Frocks with deep shoulder capes, bordered with fur, Astrakhan or ponyskin were worn • extensively, and the shoulder epaulettes and bishop or leg-ol'-mutton sleeves provided another striking note. The quaint new hats worn partly over one eye and frequently completed with an eyeveil, seem easier to wear than might at first have been imagined, and the stylo of showing much more of the hair than has been usual is very attractive.
