BURTON CUP FINAL MARTIN V. MACGIBBON - t . ■ The final for the Poverty Bay Bowling Centre’s Easter tournament for the Burton Cup was played this afternoon between. rinks skipped by J. J- Martin (Kahutia) and W. J. Mac Gibbon (Poverty Bay). Both secured easy wins m the senu-finals. Mat-Gibbon beat Morse (Kahutia) by 20 —8 on the seventeenth head and Martin beat Craig (Gisborne) by 19 —Q on the twentieth head. The rinks engaged in the final are:—-B. L. Power, A. Sawyer, J, Newton, J. JMartin (s) v. W. Hankey, J. Hankey, J. J. Hartley, W, J- Mao Gibbon (s). Mao Gibbon secured a lead of nine on the first four heads, in which Martin failed to score. The first head saw some good drawng play, and Mac Gibbon scored three. By good drawing in the second, Mao Gibbon lay four, hut Martin with his last bowl lay second shot, giving Mac Gibbon one on the head, in the third head, after the twos had finished, Mac Gibbon .lay four ; Newton, with a nice draw, saved three, and the skips failed to alter,, and Mac Gibbon scored one on the head, leaving him five up. Doth leads went wide on the fourth head, but J. Hankey drew two good shots, and Hartley’added two more, but Newton got third Mao Gibbon drew on to the jack, and the head finished by Poverty Bay notching four, leaving them epp-Martin scored his first point on the * fifth head; when the skips changed over Martin lay one, a shot drawn by Newton, which was undisturbed, leaving the scores Poverty Bay 9, Kahutia 1. lhe sixth was a full length head • both Power and W. Hankey drew close, the former getting the shot, which Hartley removed, his side then laying five, but Newton saved with a splendid draw iov Martin to trail the kitty, giving MacGibbon the shot. .. Fair drawing was witnessed on the seventh head till Newton with a graze finished on the jack, and Martin lay four; Mac Gibbon knocked the kitty fiack r but Martin still lay two. Power drew~dead to kitty on the eighth head, and Mac Gibbon by taking out one of his bowls, allowed Martin to score two, leaving Poverty Bay 1C), Kahutia 5. ~£)n the ninth head, Newton with a good draw, gave his side two, which Mac Gibbon failed to move, leaving the spores Poverty Bay 10, Kahutia 7. Martin gained the lead on the tenth head; Power and Sawyer both drew well, and Newton added two more, leaving his side lying four,, while Martin drew another, and (Mao Gibbon missed with both his, and the board now read: Kahutia 12, Poverty Bay 10. Some excellent drawing was witnessed in this head. Mac Gibbon drew level again on tjie eleventh, which developed into a wide head, and when the skips changed ovpr there was nothing near, Mac Gibbon getting two, leaving the score 12-all. -At the twelfth head Newton was the to get near and he finished on kitty; Martin drew another, leaving the score Kahutia 14, Poverty Bay 12, at the afternoon tea adjournment.
