OBITUARY

MR. JOHN RALSTON (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received April 18, 3 p.m.) PERTH, April* 18. The death occurred last night ,of Mr. John Ralston, tho .well known theatrical artist. He began liis Stage education as a member of Tom Pollard’s company of lilliputians,' which toured New Zealand for a number of years. MR. FRED TERRY (Received April 18, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 17. Tiie death has occurred of Mr. Fred. Terry, the youngest member of the Terry family. i Fred. Terry was born in 'London in 1863, and was educated in France and Switzerland. He first walked on to the stage at the opening of the Haymarkot Theatre under the Bancroft, regime in 1880, at tlio ago of 17, and had since acted in nearly every town of importance in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Captain William Rennie, who died at his home, Styx, Belfast, last week, was formerly well known as a master, of tho coastal sailing vessels Morning Light and Eliza Firth, and of the steamer Wootton. He was master of the Wootton during most of the years when she traded up the Waimakariri to Kaiapoi. Captain Rennie came out to .New Zealand as second mate of the barque Ganymede. Tho death occurred in Cambridge of one of the best-known residents, Mr. Victor Cornaga, aged 77 years. He was born in Liverpool, and came to New Zealand about 56 years ago. In the early days Mr, Cornaga experienced the hardships of pioneering. He purchased the Masonic Hotel in 1900. Mr. Cornaga had a very wide circle of friends throughout the province and the Dominion. He was generous to a fault. He was a great sportsman, and had owned several good racehorses. The death occurred on Friday at Auckland of Mrs. Georgina Lawrence, aged 87. She was tho widow of Mr. Frederick James Lawrence who was 91 when he died in May of last year. They celebrated the diamond jubilee of their wedding in July, 1929. Mr. Lawrence went to sea in, his boyhood, and served in a collier (that took part in the Crimean War. He was in the Navy at the China War, and coming to New Zealand in 1859, ho saw considerable service with the Third Waikato Regiment during the Maori War. Mrs. Lawrence, whose maiden name was Daulton, was born in Nelson. With the exception of a period in Fiji she spent all her life in the Dominion. She had many memories of tho Nelson goldfields. The death has occurred, of Mr. Benjamin Throp, for many years.tho bestknown dentist in Dunedin. He was a keen bowler, and a foundation- member of the Roslyn Chib. He was also a member of the Otago Chess Club. Mr. Throp was born in Yorkshire in--1945.
