RESULT OF QUOTAS
/ * .{ EXPERIENCE IN BRITAIN THE CASE TOR BUTTER ,» “ ■ (Elec. Tel. Copyright—Unifed Pres# Assn.) (Received April 16, 11 a.m.) LONDON, April 16. The March Board, of Trade returns p'rovido an interesting illustration of the merits of the quota system. Under this system bacon imports for the month decreased by. 24.3 per cent, compared witli 1932. Yet the decrease in money was only 1.7 per cent.’
On - the other hand, butter imports increased by 26.3 per cent., but the money value decreased by 14.6 per cent., the mbney value of March imports in 1932-being £3,616,619, compared with £3,086,006 for March, 1933.
‘ In view of these figures it is, not surprising to find many importers suggesting that the Dominion producers, in their own interests, should accept Quotas.
