BOXING SENSATION

PREMATURE DECISION McCORKINDALE BEATS GAINS (Received April 17, noon.) LONDON, April 16. The Prince of Wales was among tho spectators at the Albert Hall witnessing one of the strangest events in the history of boxing. McCorkindale was lighting Gains in a 10-round bout, but the Empire title was not involved. McCorkindale delivered a blow to the jaw in tho last round which felled Gains, who, however, rolled over at three, rested on one knee, and prepared to rise. The timekeeper counted seven, and the referee, Mr. O. Douglas, counted with him simultaneously to nine, and then shouted “out,” despite the fact that Gains was rising and the timekeeper having not finished the count.

The incident is causing the newspapers to demand that the Board of Control define accurately tho duties of timekeeper arid referee.
