To ccmbat the ravages of the white butterfly, the Department of Agriculture is at present working with two species of parasites, viz., apanteles glomeratus, a larval parasite, and pteromanus pupa rum, pupa] parasite. At least 23,000 of the former have been ! liberated in tlie vicinity of Hastings, while about 4COQ of the latter have been liberated in the same locality. The pest h supposed to have come to hfewZcaland in vegetables shipped ~t Hawaii.
