STEEPLES TO SIMEON CHAMPAGNE TO IMPASTO 1 INCREASED SPECULATION (IVr Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The Auckland Racing dub’s Easter meeting) was opened in fine weather. After the rain overnight, the track was in excellent order. There was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £38,887, compared with £34,045 for tin? first day of tho corresponding meeting last year—an increase of £4842. Following are the results : Creat Northern Oaks. —1 Silver Scorn (D. O’Connor), 1; 3 Prolyxo (R. Reed), 2; 2 Gold Musk (Jenkins), 3. Tho only starters. Won by ten lengths; seven lengths between second and third. Time, 2.38 3-5. Gold Musk made the pace for tho first half mile, Silver Scorn then drawing away from tho others to win easily. Prolyxo passed Gold Musk half a mile from home.

President’s Handicap.—l-1 Carfex (Duncan), 1; 10-10 Grand Talk (McKenzie), 2; 2-2 Aga Khan (P. Atkins), 3 Also ran: 8-9 Merry Damon, 3-4 Seatown, 4-3 Flying Prince, 11-11 Valroe. 7-7 Whakapara, 9-8 Alloy, 12-12 Jaeldy Karo, 5-5 Chang, 6-6 Psychologist. Won by a head ; three lengths between second and third. Time, 2.12 4-5. Psychologist, Carfex, and Ago, Khan led to the turn from Grand Talk, Flying Prince and Jaeldy Karo. Entering the straight, Grand Talk moved up, but was headed by Carfex, which held the advantage in a close finish. Flying Prince was fourth.

Brighton Hurdles, of £350; two miles. —9-9 Billy Boy (Burgess). 1; 2-2 Einanr’pntion (Sullivan), 2: 8-8 Royal Visitor (J. Mcßae), 3.—Also started: 1-3 Prince of Orange, 4-7 Cruachan, 10-10 High Pitch. 6-4 Paddon, 3-1 Lucess, 5-5 Free Air, 7-6 Imperial Prince, 11-11 Kawini. Won by three-quarters of a length ; a nt'fk between second and third. Time, 3.45. Prince of Orange, Royal Visitor, and Cruachan led for a mile and a-

quarter. Billy Boy and Lucess then moved up and were first over the last fence from Royal’Visitor and Cruachan. Billy Boy stayed on best to win from Emancipation, which finished fast from far hack. Lucess was fourth. Kawini and Imperial Prince fell. Easter Handicap, of £800; one mile.— 3-4 Golden Wings (R. Reed), 1; 9-10 Manawhenua (L. Dulieu), 2; 12-8 Lordly Knight (Keesing), 3. Also ran: 7-6 Paganelli, 9-10 Ladv Quex, 2-1 Sunny Sky, 4-2 Gold Trail, 10-11 Inflation/ 11-9 Eager Rose. 1-3 L’Allegro, 5-7 Aiguille, 8-12 Chief Cook, 12-13 Sea Ruler. Won by a length and a-quarter; half a length between second and third. Time, 2min. 37 2-sscc—a race record. Golden Wings ran to the front after a furlong, leading L’Allegro, Paganelli, and Manawhenua. At the half-mile, Golden Wings was first into the straight from L’Allegro, Paganelli, Lordly Knight and Manawhenua, and stayed on to stave off a challenge by Manawhenua. In a great finish, Lordly Knight was third close up. Lady Quex and Inflation dead-heated for fourth, and were followed by L’Allegro, Champagne Stakes. —3-5 Impnsto (Tinker). 1; 4-5 Deputy Ruler (Parsons), 2; 2-2 D’Artagnan (Keesing), 3. Also ran: 5-4 Rereatu, 1-1 Princess Doreen. Won by a length ; half a length between second and third. Time, 1.26 3-5. Princess Doreen was the early leader from Impnsto and Deputy Ruler. Coming to the turn, Tmpasto displaced Princess Doreen. Rereatu then ran up entering tho straight, leading Princess Doreen, Tmpasto, Deputy Ruler and D’Artagnan. In tho run homo Impasto won comfortably from Deputy Ruler and D’Artagnan. Princess Doreen was fourth.

Mangero Steeplechase.—2-2 Simeon (Smith), 1; 1-1 Cal lam art (C. Thomson), 2: 8-8 Neil (J. Mcßae), 3. Also started : 4- Royal Reign, 3-3 Claremore, 8-6 Nassock. 7-4 Absent, 5-6 Creina’s King, 5- Arcade, 12-12 Romo, 10-10 Ruby Meteor, 11-11 Little Arch. Won by six lengths; four lengths between second and third. Time, 4.58. Absent and Domo were tho leaders until tho field came to tho hill tho second time, when Simeon and Callamart joined Absent. Simeon, Callamart and Neil ran down tho hill ahead of Arcade and Creina’s King, Simeon staying on for an easy win. Creina’s King was fourth. Onslow Stakes,—-2-2 Catalogue (Wiggins), 1; 10-10 Sea Fox (Tremain), 2; 3-2 Rapper (Duncan), 3. Also ran: 4-6 Coronis, 7-8 King Mestor, 5-4 Gold Pocket, 8-7 Star Artist. 6-5 Queen Nona, 1-1 Cherry King, 9-9 My Money. Won by one and a-half lengths; two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.15. Star Artist and Gold Pocket made the early running from King Mestor and Sen Fox. Gold Pocket fell back, leaving King Mestor, Star Artist and Sea Fox in command at the turn. Catalogue then came from a long way back to win nicely from Sea Fox and Rapper. Coronis was fourth. Eden Handicap.—7-6 Kiltown (Atkins). 1; 8-7 Royal Gallant (F. Foster), 2; 9-12 Master Brierly (Bagby), 3. Also ran: 5-5 Muff, 1-1 Senegal. 2-3 Desert Star. 4-4 Bland ford, 11-11 Holly Lu, 3-2 Run. 14-13 Ruby Dawn, 13-9 Currajong. 10-10 United, 17-16 Mahkill, 12-14 Master Norval, 16-17 Sir Musk, 15-15 Wee Pat, 6-8 Racefield. 18-18 King Comet. Won bv a length ; a head between second and third. Time, 1.38 2-5. Kiltown led from end to end. Currnjong, Mahkill and Racefield followed Kiltown along the back. Tho order at tho turn was Kiltown, Racefield, Mahkill ami Currajong. Kiltown stayed on to win nicely from Royal Gallant and Master Brierly, which finished well from far hack. Rum was fourth.
