NEW HIGH-SPEED ’PLANE MAY VISIT AUSTRALIA LONDON, April I. It is possible that Australia will soon be, visited by the first of a new type of high-speed mail aeroplanes, capable of covering the distance from England to tho Commonwealth in eight, or nine days. There is a proposal afoot to send one of those machines on ait experimental flight with mails to Australia as soon as the necessary arrangements can be made. The first trial of the new machine will take place at Norwich, probably next week.

The ’plane is designed to carry 1000.1 b. of mail matter for at least 1000 miles non-stop, at a cruising speed of not less than 150 miles an hour. It is a twin-engincr biplane, powered by two Bristol Pegasus engines, moderately super-charged, and it is expected that its performance will exceed that demanded by the Air Ministry. Tlie estimated maximum speed is 195 miles an hour, and thero will be accommodation for two pilots arid a third member of the crow.
