INTEREST REDUCTION
RESTRICTION OP SCOPE ONLY PUBLIC SECURITIES (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. SO much has been announced regarding interest reduction in relation, to public securities that the question is being debated among members as to .whether the Government .will extend this, movement to cover private ‘mortgages. It has been ascertained that the >overmnent has no intention to interfere further .with private (contracts involving interest, as it considers that the mortgage relief commissions are doirig effective work in meeting'cases of hardship among mortgagors, whose interest (is being induced in accordance with individual circumstances. The recent increase in the rate of exchange is regarded as the measure of general relief which, in association with the mortgagor relief legislation, should reasonably meet the position.
