ANNUAL RAINFALL

GREATEST SINCE 1929 BELOW FIVE-YEARLY AVERAGE The rainfall registered at the Gisborne Harbor Board’s signal station for the year ended December 31 amounted to 41.44 in., the greatest that has been recorded since 1929, during which 43.48 in. fell. In 1931 only 25.83 in. was registered on the gauge, the amount being considerably below the total for 1932. On the other hand the total for 1932 is below the five-yearly average that has been kept since 1878. During December the rain recorded amounted to 1.70 in., this falling over six days as follow: December 3, , 2 points; December 4, 19 points; December 9, 44 points; December 22, 22 points; December 23, 49 points; December 24, 34 points. In comparison' with previous years it was the wettest December since 1928, when 6.44 in. fell. In 1931 only .87in. was recorded.
