LONDON AS THE CENTRE PROSPECTS FOR FUTURE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Tress Assn.) (Received January 3,2 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 2. The Postmaster-General, in a broadcast talk, revealed that when the link with India is completed it will be possible for anyone in Britain to telephone to anyone throughout the Empire, and for 95 per cent, of the telephone users throughout the world, London would become the switchboard of the world. The record for a long-distance call was held by an American film star, who telephoned to London from Australia, thence being connected with Los Angeles. When the air mail system was extended via Singapore to Australia, he said, letters would reach Australia in 14 days.
