MR. H. STEPHENSON SMITH (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. The deatli has occurred in San Francisco of Mr. 11. Stephenson Smith, resident agent for the New Zealand Government. lie entered the New Zealand postal service in 1869, and. attracted by glowing reports during the Californian gold rushes, resinned in 18F0 and entered business in San Francisco. He was appointed resilient agent of tlie New Zedand Government in August, 1893, in which capacity In* superintended the despatch of all New Zealand mails through that, port. The deceased was a brother of a former Surveyor-General, Mr. Berry Smith. MRS. E. J. COOK (Herald Correspondent.) Mrs. Maitd Cook, wife of Mr. E. ,1. The deceased lady is survived by tier husband and two small sons, to wl l iii the sympathy of a wide circle will be extended. The funeral will leave St. Paul’s Church at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow for the Wairoa Cemetery.
