WANDERERS’ QUICK RECOVERY
Cash Stores had an easy Avin over R.S.A. and Wanderers beat Nomads in the Poverty Bay Cricket Association’s Thursday competition games yesterday. Bright batting Avas seen in both games, ami Wanderers made a fine recovery when they scored nearly 200 runs in under 85 minutes. In this game, P. Dow made avcll over a century, and remained undefeated. CASH STORES BEAT R.S.A. Cash Stores defeated R.S.A. by 99 runs, largely duo to G. Stewart’s performance with both bat and ball. Stewart was the top scorer of the match, running up a total of 52 before being bowled, while in eight overs lie took seven wickets for 40 runs. (>. It. Olsen, for R.S.A., also secured a good howling average, taking ,six Avickets for 38.
Cash Stores batted livst, and were all ont for 153 (Stewart 52, A. McLean 23, L. Scholium 22 and J. Carroll 20). Stewart’s 52 by bright batting included seven fours. R.S.A., when they went in. to bat, were troubled by Stewart throughout the strike. '.(’lie opening partnership put 16 on the board, but thereafter the wickets fell cheaply, and the side was all ont for 54, Clifton being the topi scorer with 18. WANDERERS BEAT NOMADS Wanderers beat Nomads by 14 runs on the first innings after both teams had put up bright batting displays. w Nomads batted first, and in the! third wicket partnership, uockett and Mason, runs came quickly. Lockett hit 10 boundaries, mostly on the leg side, and Mason .scored nine fours. Each retired after his score had passed the 60 mark. The remaining batsmen added only a few runs, and the innings closed for 181. Three, of the wickets went to Allsop. Only 85 minutes were left for play, but P. Dow was instrumental in knocking up a fine score of 132 not out. He gave few chances, and scored all round the wicket, hitting one six and IS fours. In one over, he made no less than 26 runs. Nossiter stayed with Dow the longest, and although most of the other batsmen went cheaply the team stayed at the wickets long enough to surpass the Nomads’ total, and the innings closed at 195.
