BURMA AND INDIA
QUESTION OF SEPARATION
RECENT VERDICT REGRETTED
CALCUTTA, Dec. 1
There is a growing demand in Burma for a fresh election, as it is widely believed that a plebiscite on the straightout: issue of separation from India, now that its implications are more thoroughly understood, would reverse the recent verdict.
The result of the election was: AntiSeparationists, 41; Separationists, 29; Neutrals, 9. But it is asserted that many who stood against separation admit having done so in order to force further concessions from Britain.
The Anti-Separationists have refused an invitation to form a Ministry unless the right to secede at will from India is conceded.
The question of separation will be the subject of a vote in the Legislative Council of Burma shortly.
