REDUCED RELIEF

WAIPUKURAU PROTEST (Per Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, this day. Tlie Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce unemployment- advisory committee has appealed to the Government and Unem ployrnent Board to make up the relief pay of all classes to the maximum scale, stating that tlie, reduced allocations are inconsistent with the principle of equality of sacrifice or tlie spirit of seasonable goodwill, particularly so in the Waipukurau district, where married men generally have been reduced to li days’ work a week, and a few, with upwards of three children, to I-4 days. The committee declares that it is impossible for married men to make essential housing, food, and clothing ends meet on 16s Gel, or 26s 3d for those with larger families. Reductions last week, aggregating over 33 1-3 per cent., were considered to be excessive.
