WORK IN CENTRAL OTAGO
The success that has attended gold prospecting by the unemployed in Central ' Otago was discussed by the deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, Mr J. S. Jesse'p, who has returned to Wellington. Mr .Jcsscp stated that about a thousand men had been placed as gold diggers by the Unemployment Board, and before the summer was over it was hoped to increase this number in Otago by another 500.
“There is at least one part of New Zealand where the prevailing depression does not penetrate,'’ Said Mr Jessep. “The gold diggings of Central Otago may have lain dormant and neglected for many years, but they are fast coming back into their own. Lt is also intended to organise the West Coast for gold prospecting in much the same way.”
