U.S. FIRM “SPREADS” WORK , NEW YORK, Sept; 29. The General Motors Comporation, with more than .100,000 employees on its pay-roll, is the latest- of America’s great industrial concerns to adopt the principle of a five-day working week. The shorter week will be put into effect, wherever practicable, throughout "the .entire organisation. The, shortor-hours movement .is gaining such momentum in America that a large majority of the industrial concerns have now adopted some menus of ‘ ‘ spreading work. ’ ’
