TAUMATA HILL WORK
CONTRACT PROPOSED CR. BEAUFOY’S MOTION A proposal has been made that the Taumata Hill reservoir work should be completed by contract, and notice to move to this effect at the next meeting of the Borough Council was tabled by Cr. S. V. Beuufoy at last evening’s meeting. The work up to the present lias been done under the No. 5 Unemployment relief scheme. Cr. Ueaufoy’s motion reads as follows: “(A) All unemployed relief labor on the Taumata Hiil reservoir be suspended in the meantime. “(B) The engineer in the meantilie to be instructed to supply an estimate of tho cost of completing the work by contract, and a report showing the total expenditure to date under the heads of: (1) wages, (2) insurance, (3> cost per yard of gravel now on the site and available for construction purposes, and (4) cost per yard of excavation already carried out.
“(C) The district engineer be communicated with and asked his opinion, (1) as to the advisability of completing the work by relief labor or by contract: (2) in the event of completion by contract, would the Government subsidy be available to the Borough Council in respect thereof.” "
