FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE
REFERENCE IN HOUSE ATTEMPTS AT SETTLEMENT ( I’.ajcl in ni«iM Ia ry Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. "I have already made a number of efforts to get this dispute settled, but without avail. ’declared the Hon. A. Hamilton, ‘Minister of Labor, in the Mouse! in replying, to a. suggestion by Mr. H. T. 'Armstrong "(Labor, ■Christ-church-East) that in .view Of the serious loss ,to primary • producers and wage earners.in the freezing industry as a result of* the■ present industrial trouble; the Minister- should insist upon reference -to t-h-e Arbitration Court for the settlement of all matters in 'dispute. Mr. Armstrong said he understood that the "workers’ union was prepared to refer the. whole matter to the court, ami.to.abide by its ruling. The Minister said that he had had a conference last Tuesday with the object of arriving at a settlement, but the outcome had not been in tlie direction hoped for. “I have, no-power to .insist in the direction suggested by the member,” Mr. Hamilton added.
