OLD WORLD STYLE

NEW TOLAGA BAY INN ATTRACTIVE BUILDING PLANNED A very attractive design has been f. chosen for the «ew Tplaga Bay Inn, which is to replace the hotel destroyed by fire some time ago. In designing the), hwel, the architect, Mr. Sholto Smi% of Auckland, has broken away from the type usually seen so often in small towns throughout New Zeaalnd, the idea being that something with a real appeal to the traveller should be created. For that reason, the architect has'emulated the English inn, with its beauty and charm. As planned by Mr Smith, the entrance - to the hotel, over its brick terrace, tubs of shrubs, apd flower border along the front, will convey to the stranger a piqturp of old-world charm. Panelled walls)' beamed ceiling, an ingle-nook with an open fireplace and brick-pared hearth, comfortable seats, colored decorations on the plasterwoik showing sketches of travel, such as a galleon or a prairie schooner, leaded glass and old lanterns, will give to the visitor a sense of ease and satisfaction. Also for his comfort there will be barrooms, upstairs lounges, a barber's shop, commercial and dining-rooms, bathrooms ■v with hot and cold water and showers. - fiafehed with tilux (a material of marble ; effect), and the necessary fireplaces. eloctrical requirements, and other modern conveniences, as well as garages for several cars. Sixteen bedrooms for guests will he provided, with clothes closets, and some with “basins having hot and cold water. The construction wfll be of framework, resting mostly on concrete foundations, and the balance on concrete piles, lie front, up to the window PP of brick, and the outside will be mOstlv of redwood siding and cedar shingles. Th» roqf will be of Marseilles, tiles. In everv respect the building will be constructed of the best material. ■ Flans of the new building were submitted to the quarterly meeting of the B;>v of Pleniv Licensing Committee at Te'jCaraka to-day, and were, approved.
