HUGE RAILWAY SCHEME
LINE TO PORT DARWIN PRIVATE COMPANY’S PROPOSALS CANBERRA, Dec. 5. The Federal Ministry' has a private company’s proposal under consideration for building a railway from Bourke, New South Wales, through a portion of Queensland and the Northern Territory to Port Darwin. It is prepared to undertake the construction providing the Government grants leasehold and also freehold rights over enormous grazing lands in the Northern Territory, and a 99 years’ lease of Bathurst or Melville Island. It is estimated that the cost of the line will be £15,000,000.
