The Rev. lan Fraser, M.A., who was at one time connected with St. John’s Church. Wellington, lias been appointed assistant to the Professor of Systematic Theology at the Union Theological Seminary, New York.
Staff Sergeant-Major W. Bates, of the Defence Department, Rotorua, lias been awarded the meritorious service medal, after 21 years’ service with the permanent force* He joined the Imperial Army in 1904, and saw service in Africa, India, and the Great War. Mr. Tano Faina, advance manager for George Walker, the. champion wrestler, is staying at the Masonic Hotel, and is making arrangements for the appearance in Gisborne of .George Walker in an exhibition match prior to his departure for America.

Higginson was made the recipient of a. small presentation from the executive of the Gisborne R.S.A., in token of the esteem in which she is held among the ranks of the exservicemen. The presentation was made at the residence of Mr. J. H. .Sunderland, during (in interval in a social evenin'- 1 tendered to Sister Higginson. Dr. H.’ Golding Rice acting as spokesman for the returned men. and expressing their hope that she would enjoy the best of health and good fortune in the future. General regret is felt . among the returned soldiers of the district concerning the departure of Sister Higginson. • whose many -a:ts of kindliness towards the less for-i'fmdto. of the veterans have won her great popularity. It will he remembered that at the October reunion of the Gisborne Returned Soldier's Association Fister Higginson .spoke _ on behalf of the women’s auxiliary services, and created a profound impression by her outline of a woman’s point of view upon the experiences -of wartime.
