CRICKET MANAGEMENT
HAWKE CUP CHALLENGE CHRISTMAS GAME LIKELY The possibility of securing a Christinas fixture for tire Hawke Cup challenge was discussed at a meeting of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association last night. There wore present: — Messrs. 11. E. Maude, in the chair, Y. O. It. Mitford, L. Thomson, G. Price, P. iC.- Dwyer, R. Connop, A. C. Woodfield, A. Bignall, J. C. Dow, A. Baker, W. Blathwayt, and J. M. Kay, lion, secretary. A letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council asking for further information regaring the elimination match with Waiapu, and also stating that, although no definite date had allotted for the Hawke Cup challenge matches, the council would like to know whether Christmas dates would be suitable for this association. It was decided that the information asked for be supplied and that the council bo notified that Christmas dates would suit the Poverty Bay association.
It was decided that the selector be instructed to nominate 16 players for practice in view of the Hawke Cup match. The following committee was appointed to supervise representative practices: Messrs. M. Guthrie, G. Lockett, M. Boon, and R. Connop. A letter was received from tho Hastings sub-association asking for a visit from a Poverty Bay eleven at Christmas or at New Year. The matter was held over till next meeting.
The question of teams taking the field late last Saturday was discussed, and it was decided that the attention of all clubs should be drawn to the by-law dealing with this matter. ‘■Permission was given High School to replace players on the second day, if necessary, during the school holidays.
Mr J. €. I)ow was deputted to supply information of local cricket interest weekly to Mr W. Stewart for broadcasting purposes. By-law S, dealing with the afternoon tea interval, was amended, in accordance with notice of motion, to road as follows: “The afternoon tea interval shall be limited to 15 minutes in the case of games on Nos. 1 and 4 wickets, and 10 minutes as regards games on Nos. 2 and 3 wickets.” THE WEEK ’IS FIXTURES
Tne week’s fixtures were set down as follows: —
Thursday.—R.S.A. v. Cash Stores; Wanderers v. Nomads.
Saturday, second grade.—Marist-s v. High School A, at the Oval; Athletic v. High School B, at tho High School. Saturday, third grade.—There will be no further play until after the school vacation.
