The Napier wool sale opened at 2 p-m. to-day with a catalogue of 27.902 bales, including about 4000 bales of Gisborne wqdL At the tune of offering' the first two catalogues, it was estimated that the prices for good wool were approximately id per lb. up on Auckland rates, but the rise, it was considered, was due solely to the better quality of the fleece. The value of the poorer types was down slightly on Auckland rates. \?ools of 46/48 counts were selling in the opening catalogues at slightly bettor rates than at Auckland, with 44/66 s on a par. , . . . Coarse and inferior crossbred wools, however, were slighty down on the first sale of last season. The top price for the sale to the enci of the first two catalogues was BLI per lb., which was secured for first-class hoggets- Good necks went up to bid and bellies up to 4|d.
