NAPIER WOOL SALE

ENTRY OF 27,902 BALES CLIP or GREAT QUALITY At to-morrow’s wool sale in Na’pier, the first in that town for the season, 27,902 bales will be offered. This total is 2098 bales less than the allocation of 30,000 bales imposed by the New. Zealand wool committee when there appeared to be prospects of a large offering. It was reported in Gisborne last week that the allocation had been reached but possibly a few withdrawals since then reduced the total. Details of the catalogue of the various brokers are as follow, the order of mention being the order of their selling at the sale, which commences at 9 a.m.:— Bales. X.Z. Loan and Merc. Agency Co. 2,402 H.B. Farmers’ Co-op. .. .. 6,270 De polichet, AloLeod and Co. .. 4,185 Williams and Kettle, Ltd. .. 6,224 Dalgety and .Co. .. .. .. 4,495 Murray, Roberts and Co. .. 3,860 Hoadley, Son and Stewart .. 436 Total 27,902 The clip is regarded 'by those connected with the industry in Hawke’s Bay as the best seen at Napier for a long time. It is dense, well grown and in excellent condition generally. Aluch of the wool has lustre, which was lacking in the clips last season. Of the wool to be offered at to-mor-row’s sale, the Napier Telegraph states: —There are some truly magnificent wools in the assortment at present in the stores and some of the coastal clips in particular strike the eye as fine specimens of Romney type. In some of the coastal wools the lustre which, was one of the characteristics of the English Leicester can still bo seen, although it is years since a Leicester ram was used on the majority of these properties. There is definitely less modulated fibre in this year’s clip, a factor which is doubtless due to the better conditions which have ruled during the past season, when compared with the previous season. Where sheep are hard in condition, they are liablo to slip back as far as fleece is concerned, but when a good season follows, much of this fault is eliminated.

The weight of this year’s fleece is another factor in favor of the grower, the clip generally being the heaviest for some seasons. Hogget wools are, in a large number of cases, heavier, on account of the fact that they were unshorn -as lambs. One prominent coastal farmer said that this year he clipped an average weight over his Mock of 111 b., as against 9 ; jlb hint yea r.
