MRS. J. D. HARRIES The death occurred yesterday of a well-known resident of Gisborne in the person of -Mrs. Caroline Susan Harries, aged 60 years, wife of Mr. J. D. Harries, after a long and courageously-borne illness. The bytes Airs, flames had been in ill-health for years, and after an operation which took place about three years ago she gradually declined until quite recently she was confined to her bed. A serious development of the illness about a week ago necessitated her entry into the Cook Hospital, where her death took place.

The daughter of a Christchurch family the late Airs. Harries came to Gisborne at the age of 18 years, and two years later was married to Air. J. D. Harries, who is well known in business circles. She had lived in Gisborne ever since, and for the greater part of her life was an active and devoted worker in the interests of the Bright street .Methodist Church. Her associations were, in fact, largely concentrated upon the Ladies’ Guild, the Bible class and the •Sunday school organisation of that church, her energy and her sterling character being widely appreciated. The deepest sympathy in their loss will be extended to Air. Harries and Iris family, who comprise Messrs. C, A. and L. C. Harries, Mcsdamcs L. R. Stichbury and R. Heyworth, and .Miss Merle Harries. An expression of sympathy for the bereaved family was made at lust evening’s service at the Methodist Church by the Rev. W. J. Elliott, who mentioned, that a memorial service in respect of the late-Mrs. Harries will be held on Sunday next.

MR. F. J. OATRIDGE The death occurred in Auckland on Saturday afternoon of Mr Francis James Oatridge, who was well known in Gisborne some years ago. The late Mr. Oatridge came here as a young man, in 1879, and later established a bakery business, which lie maintained until 15 or 16 years ago, when lie sold out to the late Mr. Walter Findlay. Mr. Oafridge then went to Auckland, where he set up another bakery business, but he remained in this only a, short period before going into retirement. His death occurred at bis residence, 2 Rabin road, Mount Eden, , Deceased is survived by Mrs. Oatridge, and also by one daughter, Mrs. W. it. Taylor, of Opotiki, and live sons, Messrs. Nigel, of Manurewa. Herbert, of Damieyi'rke, Gilbert, of Otorohnnga, Thomas, of I’ukckoho, and Wilfred, of Manlmnva. Mrs. Hugh White, of Gisborne, is a sister, and Mrs. R. M. Biggar. Gisborne, is a niece. Mrs. I). J. Gumming, Ormond, is a step-sister of Mrs. Oatridge.

A pioneer of North Auckland. Mr. William Lowe Sanderson, 78, died in Mauku, Pukekohe, on Wednesday. He was a resident of Warkworth district for 57 years Deceased was the eldest son. of Mr. Thomas Sanderson, who came to New Zealand in the Golden City in 1854. The death occurred at llunterville on Friday of Mrs. A. G. Simpson, 0.8. K., at the age of 65 years. Mrs. Simpson was one of the best known and most highly respected residents in Rangitikci. Mrs. Simpson was president of the Red Cross Society during the war and did valuable work. Her husband, Mr. A. G. Simpson, died oil July 18, 1929, and a grown up family is left, Mrs. R. H. Pitcaitlily, Miss It. Simpson, Messrs. ’Grant, I), D., and R. K. Simpson.
