PRICE OF TEA
A RISE EXPECTED Authoritative advice has been received in Christchurch by cablegram that the season’s tea crop of India, Ceylon, and the Dutch East Indies—virtually the, world’s tea crop—is to be, restricted by 15 per cent., representing a drop of approximately 120,OCO,OOOI)> in production. This control, a Christchurch Press reporter was inhumed, will operate Iron) January next and is being brought into existence by the British and Dutch Governments.
It was stated that the proposal should mean a difference of from 4d to 6d per lb in the price of tea in New Zealand The reporter was told that last year British interests tried to carry out control without the co-operation of the Dutch but that in consequence of the latter interests being.so adversely affected by the slump they had decided to combine with the British in the direction indicated.
