SERVICE CAR FARES
GISBORNE TO NAPIER REDUCTION FROM DECEMBER 8 The travelling public will note with interest and pleasure the announcement that the new scale of fares for Die Gisborne-Napier motor service route will coino into effect from December 8. The full eject of the adjustment recently ordered by the Licensing Authority, after the Gisborne conference with service company representatives and others interested in the operation of passenger transport on the Gisborne-Napier route, will be felt thoughout the holiday season, and Gisborne people going afield for their annual vacations will welcome the substantial reductions in- fares. For the full single journey between Gisborne and Napier the new fare will tie 2,7 s hi' for adults, with a 10 per cent, reduction to children over 12 years travelling to or from school, a 50 per cent, reduction for children between the ages of five years and 12 years, irrespective of the purposes of their journeys, and with no charge for children under tivo years. For the return journey over the full route, the fare will be 52s 6d, and concessions relating to single fares, as mentioned above, will apply on return fares, based on the schedule rate of 52s 6d.
-Sample fares for intermediate travel, under the new schedule, are as follows, the rates quoted being from Gisborne to points on the route : Matawliero 2s, Muriwai ss, Wharerata 6s 9d, More re 9s 3d, Nuhaka 10s, Wairoa- 13s 6d, Wailma £l, Mohaka £1 2s, Kotemaori £1 5s 9d, Tutira £1 7s 6d. All points from Tutira south, on the journey from Gisborne, will involve the passenger in a fare of £1 7s 6d, whereas on the northward trip from Napier the full fare does not affect intermediate travel to points south of Matawliero. The fare, from Napier to Alauutuke, for instance, is £1 6s. Among the first to benefit by the operation of the new schedule will bo school pupils returning from their respective schools outside Gisborne. This section of travelling public is usually productive of substantial revenue to the motor companies, and (he commencement of their homeward trek to .Gisborne and the East Const is looked on as signalising the opening of the holidnv season.
