Mr. J. C. Port, secretary of Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, Wellington, has retired after £2 years’ service with the firm. Miss Turnbull, deputy-matron of the Waipawa District Hospital, has been appointed matron, vice Miss Dniininondj who has retired. Recent callers at the High Commissioner's office, London, included Miss Taka puna Ranginia, Miss F. mid Mrs. ' fihtham Perry, Gisborne. ' Mr. Godfrey Holdsworth has been elected a director on the London board of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, in ptee of Mr. Alexander Michie, who lias resigned. Mr A. J. Kcrse, manager of the Gore- branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, has received notice of his transfer to the Masterton branch.

The Rev. Father Leo Jansen, sou ol tho late Mr. and Mrs. C. Jansen, Wei lington, was ordained a priest in a ceremony which took place at St. Josep > s Church, Buckle street, Wellington, on Wednesday.

Mr Frank Cogswell, who has retired from the staff of Messrs. W illiams and Kettle, Napier, after 38 years’ service, was fa re welled by the whole of the staff. Mr F. A T . Kettle, in asking Mr Cogswell to accept, on behalf of the staff, a chiming clock, referred to the high esteem in which Mr Cogswell was held by all who came in contact with him.

Miss E. T. Deer, who this week severed her connection with the firm of Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Limited, m Gisborne, received prior to her departure a number of presentations from her colleagues, including £l letter signed by all members of 'he staff. Miss Beer was a member >f the staff for 17 years, and rluring that time she won the friendship r .f everyone a soeiated with the firm, and Miss Beer's departure was very much regretted by her colleagues. Mr. E. Wells, who is leaving Gisborne to take up farming at Opotiki, was larewelled yesterday afternoon by members of the staff of the Gisborne Times. The managing editor, Mr. J. A. Mackav, referred to the esteem with which Mr. Wells was held by bis colleagues on the .linotype operating stafi, of which he was a member, and wished Air. and Mrs. Wells every success in their new venture. A presentation was made of a leather suitcase, silver mounted.

At a. time when his services would be of great help to the Government, the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr A. D. Park, has unfortunately contracted ai illness which will prevent him from resuming work for some weeks. Mi Park, who accompanied the Munster of Finance, the Hon. W. Davvnie Stewart, to Ottawa and London, re turned to New Zealand only last week Ho suddenly became ill on Tuesday and will require to rest for eomt weeks.
