RECORD SET BY TELEGRAPH NEW YORK, October 16. As part of the observance of tlie 100th anniversary of the day when the tele graph was first conceived by its invento Professor Samuel F. B. Morse, Mr. Clarence MacKav, chairman of the boarr of the Postal Telegraph Company, sent a message around the world in the record time of 4 minutes 45 seconds, healing by one minute 45 seconds the best previous record. The message, “What has God wrought,” was the original message flash ed from Baltimore to Prof. Morse in Washington, in 1844. It was sent by Mr Mnckav from the studios of radio station WOR ’with the key which President Roosevelt used to send the first round the-world message in 1903. Miss Leila Livingstone Morse, grand-daughter o 1 the inventor, who stood beside Mr Mac Kay, received the message and acknowledged receipt by radio. An other message, flashed through South America, across to Spain and hack tc WOR was sent also iff the studio, and was received bv Mr. Mac Kay tw< minutes later.
