WELSH PORTS BUSY

CANADIAN COAL NEEDS LONDON, Nov. fi. The ports of South Wales have been humming with activity night and day for a month to supply'-Canada’s demand for anthracite coal. Nothing like such an export business has been dofie for years. This activity, trade papers say, is a direct outcome of the Ottawa Conference and there is every prospect of its continuance.

For 12 years South Wales has sent coal to Eastern Canada, chiefly to Quebec and Montreal, but now shipments are required over a far larger area. Toronto takes it, and smaller, cities nearly as far west as Winnipeg. The Canadian business is not only assured for next year, but British exporters have been asked to guarantee further substantial increases in the amount shipped. More than a million and a-half tons will be needed next, year, compared with one million tors this venr, which was a record for the industry.
