TAXATION REMISSION RELIEF FOR WHEAT-GROWERS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press As(n.) (Received Dec. 2, 11 a.m.) - CANBERRA, Dec. 2.’ The Financial Relief Bill, providing taxation • remissions of £1,400,000 and £2,000,000 for necessitous, wheatgrowers, passed tire House of Representatives. The Government also, authorised £IOO,OOO for new works in all States for the relief of unemployment over Christmas. The manner in which tho Federal Goverment’s grant, of £2,000,000 for assistance to the wheat industry should be allocated, was determined yesterday, the Government gaining a victory, the move for a direct bounty being defeated by 39 votes to 27. The Country Party, which threatened to support the amendment for the bounty, was not united. The effect of the decision is that the States will be free to distribute tho money in any way they desire, with tho exception that it must not be a bounty.
