NEW ATTACK PROPOSED CONFERENCE TOO UNWEILDY THE POSITION OF GERMANY (British Official Wireless.) Roc. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 30. Lord Hailsham, replying in the House of Lords lo a question, said Sir John Simon had been working at Geneva to promote a basis whereon Germany could return to the -Disarmament Conference, and a conference might take place between the Powers on the point in a few days. Sir John Simon is leaving for Geneva to-morrow, and, if the British reply to the American note is ready, lie will be accompanied !by Mr MacDonald, who will 'participate in the conference between Britain, Franco, Italy, the United States, and Germany regarding Germany’s return.
Asked whether the question involved by the development of an international air force, as proposed by France at the Disarmament Conference, was being considered, Mr MacDonald said these, and all connected questions, were being considered by the Cabinet. The British United Press’ 'Paris correspondent says it is expected that Mr Norman Davis, the United States delegate at the informal five-power conference at Geneva during the weekend, . will pro.jio.se that a pel'intuiblit Disarmament Commission be appointed to sit at Geneva to co-ordinate world proposals, wliilo the Disarmament Conference 'proper will be indefinitely postponed. It is understood that Britain and Italy have already agreed.. Mr Davis believes that the discussions show the futility 6$ trying to settle big international problems in a conference where 50 States are represented.
