TROUBLE IN MANCHURIA JAPANESE OFFENSIVE CHINESE REBELS RETREAT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Dec. 2, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Dec. 1. The long-awaited Japanese offensive in western Manchuria opened yesterday, several thousand Japanese, wellequipped, operating against General Su Ping-Wen, who rebelled against Manchukuo in September, capturing and imprisoning many Japanese officials. It is- reported that the. Japanese already have entered Fuliardi, 176 miles west of Harbin. The Chinese are reported to be retreating, and it is feared that General Su Ping-Wen may blow up the Hingan tunnel, destroying the connecting link of lhe Chinese Eastern Railway with the trans-Siberian. BACK TO NANKING THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT ’(Received Dec. 2, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Dec. 1. Nanking is again becoming the official capital of China, following an announcement by tho Government that headquarters have been shifted from Lovang, where they were removed when Nanking was threatened with attack during the Sino-Japanese hostilities in February.
