AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE’S PROPOSALS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The works committee of the City Ooun cil has reported, and the council, at a special medtiug this afternoon, is . experiod J o agree that the time has arrived to cease the present relief work policy and to endeavor to carry out works as ordinary work, and not as relief work. Bv such means allied trades would receive an impetus, thus relieving the strain on the unemployment funds. It therefore recommends that a programme of works to cost £160,500 be approved, and that the Unemployment Board be asked what assistance it is prepared to give, and that the Loans Board be asked to sanction the raising of a loan fot the balance of the cost. The [imposed works are stormwater drainage, £44,000; waterworks extension, £59,000. street extension, £12,500; and a new municipal office block, £45,000. The present number of council relief workers is 1500, who are costing £II,OOO annually bn material, plant, ami supervision
