GENERAL NOTES The lightweight jockey, W. H. Jones, who iu tho past lias resided in the North Island, has decided to make R-iecarton his home in future. * * * * The defeat- of Pillow Fight- by Gold Trail in flic- Great Northern Guineas has been ascribed to a damaged leg. Tit is to be hoped he does not injure any -members before New Year’s Day, when be will have to meet the most- formidable aggregation of juveniles this season in the Great- Northern Derby. w *x- % * If reserved for the- Members’ Handicap at Hamilton on Saturday, the pacer Raider should have a good chance. The. son of Mau-o’-War did not win at either of his two starts at the Auckland October meeting. Raider is a nice cut of a. horse and a rather stylish pacer. lie looks a bit above the improver class.

Tlalra/ie, a. half-sister by Hunting Song to Lancer and Huntly, is again a daily visitor to Riecarton in charge- of. her owner, Mr. J. L. Powell. She-start-ed 30. times last season, and 1 had one win, a, Trial Stakes at Greymouth, and one second placing in a. similar event at Reefton. She is now being prepared to make another trip to the West Coast for the forthcoming holiday circuit.

Topliglit -an easily his best raco to date in the Vauxhall Handicap at Takapuna. atid ho might have won with the luck a little more his way. He. was badly placed and then had to go on the extreme outside at the turn, where he was out about live horses wide. In addition, lie. displayed, a tendency to hang in at the. finish and tin's also affected his chance.

It transpires that Iho three,year-old Rulauul (Chief Ruler—-Coconut) was sold by Mr. Kemball between his winning the Cranliourne Gold Cup and the Ormond Stakes at Caulfield. He is now owned by Mrs. Kav Wilson, who secured nil early return of ,£2OO. It was cabled at the time that lie ran a course record for the eight furlongs and a, -half. Itulaiiut also holds the. course record for five furlongs.

B. Burgess, owner-trainer of Atholspoar, lias lodged an appeal against the decision of the judicial stewards of the. Carterton Racing Club, which deprived him of first place in the Wairarapa County Cup at the recent meeting, in fuVor. of Gay Court, which finished second to Athoispear. An appeal has been lodged on behalf of A. O’Neill, Burgess’ apprentice, and rider of Athoispear, who was suspended for three months over the same incident.

The live shilling totalisator is .mauling its popularity at Takapunu, which was the first racing club in New Zealand to use it. At the spring'meeting in 1930, when it was introduced, it accounted for 25 i per cen. of the total investments, and since then it has shown only a very small percentage drop. At this year’s- spring meeting, which, 'concluded or. Monday, The ratio of five shillings tickets to the total turnover was 24 per cent. * * * * Sandy Pointer, who claims two engagements at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting, is in E. Keunerley’s stable at To Awanuitu, having 1 been secured by that trainer during his visit, to tho Now Zealand Cup meeting 1 with Peter Pirate and Red Girl. 1 Sandy Pointer has not proved a very good performer, and the fact that ho' is' handicapped on a 2.56 mark at a mile and a-quarter after several seasons’ racing does not suggest that he is anything out of the ordinary. However, it would not require to bo .a good horse to, win a 'slow-class race in Auckland. Vr * * * One of the most attractive young horses in training at Riccarton at present is a filly by Jericho from an Achilles mure, in F. D. Jones’ stable. She is very well grown and if looks are to be taken seriously, she will reach high class. Jones also has a two-year-old by Jericho from L'uminant in his charge, owned by Air. George Gould. This youngster, who will-race under tho name of Fiat Lux, is also full of quality, and although he may not be called upon to race for some months, lie gives every indication of developing into a good galloper.' Jericho himself could justly claim to lie one of the best-looking thoroughbreds in commission, and this asset, combined with his unquestionable rich blood fines, would point to his 1 success as a sire. *■ * * * Brilliant victories registered by tho. Silvius colt. Bareburn, in the Queensland Derby and Queensland Cup suggest that he will prove a worthy rival for Peter Pan in the A.J.C. Leger and other races in tho autumn, writes ‘‘Tracery.” _ Unbeaten in, fiis only three races this season, Bfaehuvh is evidently a colt of exceptional merit. The Randwick ownertrainer, El F. Walker, bought Braeburn for 550gns. He formed the opinion early that Hie colt was a born stayer, and this was proved when Braeburn found the distances of two-year-old events too short for him. lie was unplaced in five outings, and it was not until the recent A.J.'C. spring carnival that the colt revealed really good form. •Specially orepared for the Members’ Handicap, a mile and a-quarter race for three,-year-olds on the third day of the fixture, Braeburn finished well to account for two fair class youngsters in Milahtlieon and Regal Son. On being taken to Queensland shortly afterwards, Braeburn won the Derby by four lengths iii 2.31 J, and lie scored an even easier victory in the Queensland Cup. Carrying weight for age (7.6), lie won puil'.ag up bv five lengths, and ran the two miles in 3.23. These perform:urees leave no doubt as to Braeburn’s staying powers, and lie promises to be. one of tile star performers over a long distance, in the autumn. j
